Bout of Books Read-a-thon

Bout of BooksPlease join me as I pioneer my way through the Bout of Books Read-a-thon.

First, a big thank you to Grace from Books Without Any Pictures for bringing this event to my attention. I’ve never participated in a read-a-thon before, so this should be interesting. Here’s the information about the event that the organizers provided:

“The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional.Β For all Bout of Books 8.0 information and updates, be sure to visit theΒ Bout of BooksΒ blog.Β – From the Bout of Books team.”

I’m going to challenge myself to complete three books this week. Phew! I’ve chosen one from each of the genres I am now focusing on: ghost novels, dog novels, and young adult novels.

Drum roll, please.

My selections are:

A Stir of Echoes by Richard Matheson (ghost)33553

The Search by Nora Roberts (dog)7076706

The Maze Runner by James Dashner (young adult)6186357

This will definitely be a challenge for me, so wish me luck. In the meantime, feel free to join me in the Bout of Books read-a-thon.

Jump in, the water’s fine!

  1. Hallo, Hallo!! Sorry it took me so long to boomerang back to your blog, as I had intended to swing by earlier in the week! Time has drifted away from me, but I wanted to say, that we each picked a ‘ghost’ story to read this week! I chose “Haunted” by Heather Graham, which is the first installment of the “Ghost Harrison” series!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I like her ghost stories because their really ‘paranormal romances’ with the intrigue and psychological thriller that involves ghosts + issues in the present! πŸ™‚ If your familiar with Ghost Whisperer its about on the same level!! πŸ™‚

OOh, wait you write the same genre! I hopped over to your About Page!! πŸ™‚ Then, you KNOW! πŸ™‚ Parapsychological stories rock!! I’ve been keenly drawn to them myself! I lean on the cosy side of the genre,… where would Stir of Echoes fall!? Cosy!? Hard-boiled!? Or intensely violent!?

    1. Hi Jorie,

I remember really liking Haunted, and I think it was my first Heather Graham novel. I know I’ve read a couple other Harrison books and liked them. Now you’ve inspired me to try to track them down. Recently I read Ghost Walk, but I just didn’t feel the same quality of writing in that book.

I’m only 83 pages into Stir of Echoes, but so far it doesn’t seem violent. It’s basically a guy turning psychic and discovering a needy ghost in his house. I read a ton of ghost novels–everything from horror to literary to romance. I don’t much like the horror ones (although Heart-Shaped Box is an exception). I like ghosts that need help rather than ones that are out to hurt you. Maybe it’s the mom in me that wants to make it all better for the sad ghost.
