Just Pru Blog Tour & Giveaway
Today I’m happy to participate in the blog tour and giveaway for Anne Pfeffer’s new novel Just Pru! Read all about this exciting new book and be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of the post.
About the Book:
When twenty-five-year-old Pru Anderson—braless, pajama-clad, and clutching her cat, Chuck—is rescued from her burning Los Angeles apartment, the thing that scares her most is meeting the neighbors. New people make her hide in the bathroom, counting by sevens, but when her home is destroyed, she must turn strangers into friends … or crawl back to the controlling parents she only recently escaped.
What would her idol, Pepper Hathaway, do? That’s a no brainer: the detective-slash-supermodel heroine from Pru’s favorite TV series would take no prisoners while looking fierce in a tankini and stilettos. So when the chance comes up to live with playwright Ellen, Pru sets aside her fears and goes for it.
Thus begin the adventures of a girl who’s never had a job, a friend, or a first kiss. Swept into Ellen’s whirlwind life, Pru begins to build her own, as director’s assistant for a new play, muse to brooding actor Blake, and possible love interest to adorably neurotic neighbor, Adam.
Only one thing can derail Pru’s exhilarating journey. Well, actually, it’s two things—and they’re in a car headed straight for LA to torpedo her life. When the past that nearly destroyed her comes calling, who will she be: a Prudence or a Pepper?

Pru, not Prudence, has lived two months away from home. Her money has run out, she has no job prospects, and her parents are waiting for any excuse to whisk her back to a suffocating existence. Oh, and Pru is burdened with near-crippling anxiety.
And that is when a fire destroys everything she owns except for Chuck, her beloved cat.
Pru must call on reserves she doesn’t know she has, speak to people she has never met, even seek advice from the deceased or those who never lived in order to find where she belongs. Though her therapist has died, he is still with her as Pru conjures his words of strength at moments of crisis. In addition to the internalized voice of her deceased therapist, Pru relies on wisdom gleaned from her favorite TV heroine Pepper Hathaway. The honest, self-revelatory voice author Anne Pfeffer has created for Pru is absolutely delightful.
Forced out of her apartment, Pru meets new people and discovers her ability to empathize (as well as draw on lessons from TV heroines), all of which leads her to the theater and comic predicaments only she can fix using her unique intuition. The start is a little slow, but soon the reader is fully engaged with agoraphobe Pru and her many personal struggles.
You might think a fire that destroyed all her belongings would be the end of Pru. Instead, the fire offers her the opportunity to make a new life for herself. Because of the fire, Pru has no choice but to reach out to others and begin to interact in the world. At size 16, she had always thought herself undesirable. She had also believed she had nothing worthwhile to contribute. Now Pru is on a journey to discover her true self. With extraordinary courage, she does the things (as Eleanor Roosevelt advises) that she thought she could not do.
I love the way the author uses fire as a symbol for death and rebirth. Just Pru is the delightful story of a brave, compassionate woman reaching toward new life following the overdue death of her former self.

Wonderful review! I’m so glad that you connected with this one as well. I just adored Pru and loved that the author added so much humor to what is a fairly serious story. She made it a lot of fun.
Thank you so much for hosting a tour stop and sharing your thoughts!
Candace, it was a pleasure to participate. I really do love this character and her indomitable spirit. The precarious situations she found herself in were both funny and poignant.
This sounds like an amazing read! I enjoyed the review and the journey from losing everything to finding your true potential sounds like something that I can relate to. Can’t wait to check this out. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Cj,
Oh, I hope you like this as much as I do. Pru is a big-hearted person who often doesn’t understand her own worth. She’s the kind of friend we wish we had.
Thank you
