Blogging A to Z Theme Reveal
(A Dame’s School courtesy of flickr via photopin)
So, I’m going to do something new and radical this April. I’m going to participate in Blogging A to Z. That means I will join with a bunch of other bloggers and create a blog post every day in April with Sundays off for good (or bad) behavior. Twenty-six days, twenty-six letters. Check out the cool Blogging A to Z website here.
Maybe you’d like to join in. Please do. Cruise on over to the sign-up page.
Methinks I must be crazy…Deb of the I’ll-post-when-I-feel-like-it persuasion. Hopefully, I’ll feel like it a whole lot in April. Part of the fun will be tooling around the World Wide Web looking at other bloggers’ offerings. Sounds exhilarating, yes?
Now it is time for the big Theme Reveal.
My theme is: The Three R’s.
What’s that?
Cast your mind back to grade school when we all studied the three R’s: Readin’, (W)ritin’, and Rithmetic. Wait a minute, you say. Doesn’t rithmetic start with an A? There’s some irony in there somewhere–as in, if you know your readin and writin, you’d probably know how to spell er, math.
My three R’s are slightly different. I blew math, so we can cross that one right off.
Deb’s Three R’s: Readin, (W)ritin, and Research.
I will ruminate on…
1. Stuff I read
2. Stuff I write about
3. Stuff I found out while engaged in activities one and two. See above.
I guess I got inspired by the A to Z alphabet thing, which reminded me of elementary school. At any rate, here’s our first research tidbit. Apparently, the three R’s phrase was based on a speech Sir William Curtis gave in 1795. His biographer, Henry Morse Stephens, called him “a pitiably bad speaker, very badly educated” as well as the butt of many jokes. Who knows, maybe Sir William really didn’t know how to spell arithmetic?
Blogging A to Z begins April 1. I’ll be busy writing and snooping around other blogs. I really, really hope you’ll check in and check out my “stuff”!

Great theme! Totally love your replacing ‘”rithmetic” with research :-), and also appreciate the awesomeness of dogs. I, too, am a sporadic poster and have been wondering if I am crazy to do this. Guess we’ll find out soon enough. Looking forward to your Challenge posts!
Thanks for dropping by, Anne! Yep, I’m with you–this A to Z thing will be a challenge. No doubt about it. Now I’m going to hop over and see your theme.
I love reading and writing, so your theme is perfect! 🙂

Cool. I hope you enjoy my eclectic offerings. Thanks for visiting!
This sounds like a fun project. Looking forward to seeing your posts in April.
I am with you on the blog-when-I-feel-like. Not very good, I tell myself, but then…
Ha ha! There’s a kind of push-pull–should I blog or should I work on my novel in progress? Or should I do that pesky laundry? Laundry wins too often. I’m guessing you feel the same!
Hi I just dropped by to check out your theme and II can already tell from your quirky and fun voice that I am going to like you and your topics. I sort of bombed math, as well. It’s why I went to law school . Seriously . Well, one of the many reasons. School with absolutely zero math. How could I say no?
I’m looking forward to reading your blog posts. You sound a little bit like me – the um … blog when I can or feel like it. I agree with the other commenter – sometimes we have to choose between working on our novel or blogging . And .. laundry ugh. And … work and the kids and those other pesky things that get in the way. I’ve been a sporadic blogger – at best. But, the good thing about the A to Z challenge , it actually motivated me to write each day. My pitiful blog has 26+ post for each April, which if somefines more than I have for the rest of the year combined .
I will be back in Aoril
Hi Melissa,
A fellow mathphobe! Nice to meet you! Your post made me laugh. I’ll be popping over to visit you, too. I can tell we have a lot in common.
Love your theme for the A to Z challenge. Good luck next month. I can’t wait to read.
Thanks, K. Renae. I love yours, too, and I’ll be popping by to see what you do with education.
Hi Deb! I’m coming from my blog; thanks for stopping by 🙂 This is my first time doing A to Z too! I’m pretty nervous, but it should be a lot of fun even if it is a bit challenging. (I mean, it’s a challenge, right?)
Lol I love your own spin on the Three R’s. I didn’t know the “Readin’, Ritin’, Rithmetic” was actually a thing until one of my friends used it in a joke. Looking forward to your posts!

Hi Wendy,
I had fun on your site, and I’m looking forward to visiting during the big event. Newbies unite! I did wonder if some people were too young to know about the Three R’s, but I figure it’s fun to learn new irrelevant facts.
LOve your theme. … and the photo. It’s fun imagining what was really going on and what was said.
Thanks, Leigh. Glad you like the photo!
