Book-ish Ghosts

Throughout the April challenge, you get to guess the ghost novel, ghost movie, or ghost beginning with the letter of the day. You can find Book-ish Ghosts contest rules here in the theme reveal.

X is for XP

XP is the abbreviation for xeroderma pigmentosum, a rare genetic disorder in which individuals cannot repair the damage caused by ultraviolet light. These patients are sometimes called the children of the night–both because night is the time they can more safely go outside, and because the majority do not live past their teens.

Xeroderma pigmentosum lends itself to ghost stories, and there are many. For example, Ethan in A Second Glance by Jodi Picoult has the disorder and loves to help his uncle Ross in ghosthunting adventures. Read on for clues to today’s film mystery.

Clue 1: Two characters in this 2001 movie, Anne and Nicholas, suffer from XP, or xeroderma. However, the name of the movie does not begin with the letter X.

Clue 2: Nicole Kidman stars as a mother desperate to protect her children from sunlight and is constantly drawing drapes across windows only to have them mysteriously open again.

Leave your guess in the comments. Only two more days to go!

Yesterday’s movie as Tasha predicted, is What Lies Beneath. This is one of my very favorite ghost movies, so I hope you will watch it if you haven’t already. Just disregard the poor ratings. What’s up with that? Enjoy the trailer!

    1. I’ve only seen The Others once. I should follow your example and view it again. Watching the trailer when I posted the answer reminded me how atmospheric this film is!

    1. So sorry, Susan. I had a crash mid-way through the challenge, and I’m putting blog plugins back in place bit by bit. I’m holding my breath as I don’t want another crash. I hope the comment problem is fixed now.
