Q is for Quondam

Wait, what?

Quondam? In my defense, let me just say the letter Q is hard. Besides, there are worse things than learning new words.

On the other hand, perhaps you already know that Quondam (from the Latin) means “that once was; former.” That’s about as good a word to describe a ghost as there is. Here are your clues for today’s mystery:

Clue 1: A troubled teen moves into a house reputed to by haunted by a quondam (Ha! See how I just slipped that word quondam right in there?) resident who died in a car crash on her way home from her high school winter formal forty years earlier.

Clue 2: The name of this movie is also the name of a song by Creedence Clearwater Revival (but spelled with an S instead of a Z.)

Now for yesterday’s answer. P is for Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, later made into a film. Many people are familiar with the movie version, but I recommend reading the book. I like the movie very much, but it lacks the depth you find in Alice Hoffman’s exquisite prose. I’m not a knee-jerk the-book-is-always-better-than-the-movie observer. Sometimes I do prefer the movie version. For instance, I love the 1994 Little Women film with Winona Ryder more than I like Alcott’s novel. I even prefer the Woman in Black film over Hill’s book. I’m just saying that if you love the film Practical Magic, please check out the book, too. Here’s the movie trailer:

As always, leave your guess for Q is for Quondam in the comments. Good luck!
