We’re halfway finished with the challenge! And you’re still here. Yay! Let’s continue.

Book-ish Ghosts

Throughout the April challenge, you get to guess the ghost novel, ghost movie, or ghost beginning with the letter of the day. You can find Book-ish Ghosts contest rules here in the theme reveal.

Today we have a ghost movie.

Clue 1: After their father commits murder and takes them into the forest, two motherless girls meet up with an unusual maternal figure–a ghost who cares for them in an abandoned cabin.

Clue 2: The executive director of this film is Guillermo del Toro.

Yesterday’s mystery, as several of you guessed, is indeed

Some years ago, I participated in a workshop with author Alice Sebold at the Squaw Valley Writers Conference. She talked to us about writing The Lovely Bones including insight into her own brutal sexual attack and her memoir Lucky. It was a rare privilege to spend the day with this kind and generous author.

So, tell us the name of today’s mystery movie. Tomorrow all will be revealed!

    1. Mama is a scary film indeed. I only wish in the end they had gone for a little less depiction. The ghost was more mysterious (and scarier) before she was revealed. Glad you love the film.

    1. Yes, the workshop with Alice Sebold really was a wonderful experience. One evening authors were invited to read their favorite poems. One author read his own poem. Ick. Alice Sebold read a charming child’s poem that was meaningful to her. What a treat!

  1. I know this one. It’s Mama. I did not want to see this, but my kids made me take them to the theatre and I was scared to death. That little one, the youngest girl, was so cute. But, at the end they did save the uncle didn’t they and push the crazy mama ghost thingy over a cliff? I can’t remember. I had my eyes closed or covered for much of the movie. I missed your post yesterday, but I’m going back to read it, b/c The Lovely Bones was one of my favorite books and movies.

    1. That’s so funny that your kids made you go. I know sometimes I’m pressured into seeing movies I’m not ready for–especially anything with torture. I’m too weak for that. I can’t remember what happens to the uncle, but I think he is saved plus his wife. I might want to watch this one again.

  2. Out blog hopping today from North Carolina. Love finding new bloggers who participate during the #Challenge. Happy to find someone else who loves books too. I often write about books on my blog, as a writer, a category I call…A writer’s writer. Favorite authors appear. Congratulations on all the hard work it takes. Great fun, however. If you have time or interest, come join me for hotels and inns, my theme this year. Hope to see you. I’ll be back.

    1. Thanks for stopping in from North Carolina. Sometimes it amazes me the ability to converse coast to coast like this. Glad you dropped by. Good to meet fellow book lovers! I’ll definitely visit you at your blog.
