If it’s July, this must be Book Challenge by Erin!

It’s book challenge time again!

Book Challenge by Erin 9.0 is here! Below are the categories with my selections. For more information and to join in the fun, check out Erin’s Facebook page.

  • 5 points: Freebie – Read a book that is at least 200 pages

Less by Andrew Greer

A failed novelist of a certain age unceremoniously dumped by his partner. Won the Pulitzer!

  • 10 points: Read a book that starts with the letter “N”

The Ninth Hour by Alice McDermott

Twentieth century Irish Catholic angst. National Book Critics Circle Award Nominee.

  • 10 points: Read a book that has a (mostly) orange cover

A Kim Jong-Il Production by Paul Fischer

This one was suggested by my daughter. She knows of my interest in all things Korean.

  • 15 points: Read a book with an unlikeable character

The Edge of Normal by Carla Norton

  • 20 points: Read a book from the list of 100 books that PBS calls “The Great American Read”

Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut

Hugo Award nominee. Some readers compare this to Slaughter House Five (which is amazing)

  • 20 points: Read a book with something related to water in the title

Christine Falls by Benjamin Black

  • 25 points: Read a book you’ve owned the longest

Anatomy of a Murder by Robert Traver

National Book Award Finalist. I have the original 1958 edition. How cool is that?

  • 30 points: Read a book with an emotion word in the title

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I was at a writing conference last year when an agent read part of chapter 2 for us. I was hooked by the soulful writing.

  • 30 points: Read a book (must be at least 2 words in the title) where each word in the title of the book begins with the same letter

Sunday Silence by Nicci French

  • 35 points: Read a book featuring a character who shares your profession or similar one

Nine Coaches Waiting by Mary Stewart

The character is a governess–the closest thing I could find to a tutor. Fact: I looked up novel titles that contained the word tutor. Most of them were erotic or porn. Who knew tutors were so sexy?

What about you, readers? Have you joined any reading challenges lately? Remember, if I’ve piqued your interest about Erin’s book challenge, you are welcome to join any time on her Facebook page.
